Early Pick 5 — Races 1–5 | 50¢ base

R1: 1, 6, 7, 9 R2: 2, 4, 7, 9 R3: 3, 6 R4: 3, 4, 6 R5: 2, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 . . . middle leg bummer, played only two in that one those can be tough, but even if I did add another it wouldnt have been the #1

Ticket cost shown: $288

Late Pick 5 — Races 6–10 | 50¢ base | $192

R6: 8, 9 R7: 1, 3, 6 R8: 7, 9 R9: 1, 4, 7, 8 R10: 2, 4, 5, 8 . . . middle leg bummer again, beat by the favorite and although we was an obvious choice - we wanted to try to beat him to juice the payout.

Those are our tickets. Below is the thinking behind them so you can build your own, adjust the coverage, or decide we need adult supervision. Numbers above are listed in numerical order, not preference.

Race 1 — Using 1, 6, 7, 9Five furlongs for two-year-old maidens—because apparently easing into the afternoon wasn’t an option. Tizoc (#9) brings the strongest figures among those who have raced, while Majestic Ruler (#6) has just one start and room to improve. Vekoma City (#1) needs to recover his better form, and debutant No Love Lost (#7) supplies the unknown. Four horses here feels less like extravagance and more like bringing a spare tire.

Race 2 — Using 2, 4, 7, 9Unpredictable (#2) has the strongest recent figures in the field, which is reassuring until you read his name. Zenick (#9) brings early speed, while Mr. Travelin’ Man (#4) and Activity (#7) give us alternatives if the obvious one finds another creative way to remain a maiden. We’re covering four because these races tend to punish confidence.

Race 3 — Using 3, 6Bail Us Out (#6) comes off a field-best 100 and has the strongest class rating in the group. War Warrior (#3) enters off a career-best 96 and gets the other spot. This is where we tighten the ticket and ask two horses to justify the money we spent being indecisive elsewhere. Bail Us Out is also an excellent name for our designated financial representative.

Race 4 — Using 3, 4, 6Pike (#3), Mediterranean Sea (#4), and Predators’ Ball (#6) all earned 72 figures last out, so there isn’t much separating them on that measure. Mediterranean Sea and Predators’ Ball have been steadier recently; Pike’s latest was an improvement. Golden Decree (#7) has stronger figures than all three and is the conspicuous omission. That’s the stand we’re taking—feel free to add him if you’d prefer your afternoon without that particular anxiety.

Race 5 — Spreading to Close the Early TicketRockingham Joe (#6) and Lodato (#10) bring the strongest recent averages among the visible selections. Sky Masterson (#2) has older figures that would fit comfortably here, while Pardo (#8) and Finest Gamble (#11) broaden the coverage in a race without an overwhelming standout on recent numbers. This is the leg where we’d like options instead of a stirring speech about conviction.

Race 6 — Using 8, 9The late ticket begins with Katie’s Delight (#8) and I’m Not Tell You (#9). Katie’s Delight earned a 59 in her only start, the best last-out figure among the experienced runners. I’m Not Tell You has reached 61 and offers a little more racing experience. Several first-time starters add uncertainty, but we’re sticking with these two. We asked the 9 for further clarification; apparently she’s not telling us.

Race 7 — Using 1, 3, 6Birdie Rose (#3) has the strongest recent average of our three, while World Traveler (#6) owns back figures that make her dangerous. Terrie T (#1) needs improvement but comes off a 71 that puts her within reach. We’re leaving out Answer the Call (#8) despite her substantial early pace figures. Ideally, she spends enough energy answering it that someone else gets the last word.

Race 8 — Using 7, 9Expectations (#7) brings the strongest established figures in this field. Lucky Lollipop (#9) improved to a 63 last out, just one point below Expectations’ latest, and gets our other spot. The debutantes could complicate matters, but we’re taking two experienced runners and moving along. Expectations and Lucky Lollipop: one sounds like the handicapping, the other sounds like the backup plan.

Race 9 — Using 1, 4, 7, 8Practically Dark (#8) brings solid recent figures, while Proud American (#7) comes off a field-best 94 and needs to show he can repeat it. My Mitole (#1) has better back form than his latest efforts suggest, and Jalapeno (#4) rounds out our coverage. Swaggish (#2) is a legitimate threat we’re leaving out despite competitive numbers. Nobody said having an opinion would be comfortable.

Race 10 — Using 2, 4, 5, 8Dream Dancer (#8) brings the strongest class rating and three-race average in the field. Beekman Street (#4) has early speed and a lifetime-best 93 that would make him formidable here. I Wish You Love (#2) and Zirzop (#5) complete the ticket as alternatives in a closely matched group. If we’re alive at this point, “I Wish You Love” will sound considerably more affectionate than whatever we’ve been yelling at the screen.

Build your tickets however you like. These are our swings.
